How do I transcribe a video that has no captions?

Paste the video's link into the box above, sign in with a free account and run it with Transcript selected. When a video has no captions, our speech-to-text (Whisper) listens to the audio and writes the words. The text appears on the page. You can copy it or download it as TXT, SRT or VTT. It works on videos up to one hour long.

How can I tell if a video has no captions?

On YouTube, look for the CC button on the player. If it's missing or greyed out, the video has none. On TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, captions are usually drawn onto the picture or absent, so there is rarely a file to fetch. You don't have to check. Paste the link, and we use captions when they exist and speech-to-text when they don't.

What affects speech-to-text accuracy?

Clear speech from one person, close to a good microphone, gives the best result. Music, echo, crosstalk, heavy accents and bad recordings cause mistakes. Names, numbers and technical words are the usual slips. It handles many common languages and works best when one language is spoken throughout. Check any quote against the video, and treat the result as a fast first draft.

What can I do with the transcript?

Read it instead of watching, search it for one phrase, quote it, or turn it into notes. Press Copy for ChatGPT and it copies the transcript with a ready "summarise this" prompt, then opens ChatGPT. Download SRT or VTT if you want subtitles for your own edit. Creators, students and journalists all use it this way.

Is it free to transcribe a video without captions?

Yes, for your first 3 downloads. Make a free account with an email and password and you get 3 downloads to try it. After that, A Little More is $2.50 for 20 downloads, paid once. Pro is $5.99 a month for unlimited downloads, or $14 a quarter, or $45 a year. If a download fails, it doesn't use a credit.

You can also make one transcript a day without an account, for a video up to 20 minutes that has captions. Speech-to-text, longer videos, file downloads and history need a free account.

We build your file on our server and delete it 15 minutes after it's ready. A transcript you make with an account is saved to your history for 90 days, and you can reopen it from there. There's no app to install: it all runs in the browser on iPhone, Android, Mac and PC.
