How do I get a transcript of an Instagram Reel?
Open the Reel, tap the paper plane and choose Copy link. Paste it into the box above, keep Transcript selected and run it. The words appear on the page. Press Copy text to take them away, or download TXT, SRT or VTT from the same result. It works for public Reels and video posts, on a phone or a computer.

Do Instagram videos come with a caption file?
Rarely. Instagram can show captions over a Reel, but those are usually part of the picture, and we seldom get a separate caption file to read. So for most Reels the text comes from speech-to-text (Whisper), which listens to the audio. That needs a free account. Videos with an actual caption file are the exception, and those can use the one-a-day try without an account.
What if the Reel is mostly music?
You get only the words that are spoken or sung clearly. A dance clip with a song and no talking gives you little or nothing. Lyrics under a voice may be transcribed badly, or skipped. Reels with a person talking to the camera, a how-to or an interview come out best. Check any quote against the video before you use it.
Who uses Instagram transcripts?
Brands and creators turn Reels into captions, blog posts and newsletters. Researchers and students quote experts who share ideas in short clips. Journalists check exact wording. Copy for ChatGPT puts the transcript and a ready "summarise this" prompt on your clipboard and opens ChatGPT. Please credit the person who made the Reel when you reuse what they said.
Is the Instagram transcript generator free?
Yes, for your first 3 downloads. Make a free account with an email and password and you get 3 downloads to try it. After that, A Little More is $2.50 for 20 downloads, paid once. Pro is $5.99 a month for unlimited downloads, or $14 a quarter, or $45 a year. If a download fails, it doesn't use a credit.
You can also make one transcript a day without an account, for a video up to 20 minutes that has captions. Speech-to-text, longer videos, file downloads and history need a free account.
We build your file on our server and delete it 15 minutes after it's ready. A transcript you make with an account is saved to your history for 90 days, and you can reopen it from there. There's no app to install: it all runs in the browser on iPhone, Android, Mac and PC.
