How do I get a transcript of a Facebook video?

Tap Share under the video and choose Copy link. On a computer, copy the address bar. Paste it into the box above, keep Transcript selected and run it. The text appears on the page. Press Copy text to use it elsewhere, or download TXT, SRT or VTT from the same result. Reels work the same way as other videos.

To keep the video itself, use the Facebook video downloader.

Why do most Facebook videos need speech-to-text?

Facebook shows captions on some videos, but we can't count on getting a caption file for a public post. So for most videos our speech-to-text (Whisper) listens to the audio and writes the words. That takes a free account and works on videos up to an hour. Clear speech works well. Background noise, a distant microphone and a crowd reduce accuracy.

Can I transcribe a webinar, a meeting or a talk posted on Facebook?

Yes, if the video is public and finished. Speech-to-text covers up to an hour. If the video has captions, the limit is 3 hours. A live broadcast that's still running can't be fetched. A replay posted as a normal public video may work. Meetings with many speakers come out as one block of text, so you'll need to add speaker names yourself.

Who uses Facebook video transcripts?

Local groups keep a written record of a talk or a service. Journalists quote public statements after checking the wording. Students and researchers search long videos for the part they need. Creators repurpose a video into a post. Copy for ChatGPT copies the transcript with a ready "summarise this" prompt and opens ChatGPT.

Is the Facebook video transcript generator free?

Yes, for your first 3 downloads. Make a free account with an email and password and you get 3 downloads to try it. After that, A Little More is $2.50 for 20 downloads, paid once. Pro is $5.99 a month for unlimited downloads, or $14 a quarter, or $45 a year. If a download fails, it doesn't use a credit.

You can also make one transcript a day without an account, for a video up to 20 minutes that has captions. Speech-to-text, longer videos, file downloads and history need a free account.

We build your file on our server and delete it 15 minutes after it's ready. A transcript you make with an account is saved to your history for 90 days, and you can reopen it from there. There's no app to install: it all runs in the browser on iPhone, Android, Mac and PC.
