How do I convert a YouTube video to MP4?

Paste the YouTube link into the box above and press Download. MP4 is already the default, so there's nothing else to set. We fetch the best video and audio YouTube has for that link, join them into one MP4 file and hand it to your browser. Longer videos take a little longer to prepare, up to the 3-hour limit.

The MP4 guide walks through it on each device.

Why choose MP4 instead of WebM or MKV?

MP4 is the format almost everything opens. iPhones, Android phones, Windows, Macs, smart TVs, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Premiere and CapCut all play it without extra software. WebM and MKV are fine on a computer with VLC, but they can trip up phones and some editors. If you're unsure, MP4 is the least likely to cause trouble later.

Putting it in a presentation? See adding a video to PowerPoint or Google Slides. If an MP4 won't play on an older Windows PC, this fix usually sorts it.

Will the MP4 be in 1080p?

It will if the video was uploaded in 1080p or higher. We save the highest quality YouTube offers, up to 1080p Full HD. Older clips, phone uploads and some music videos only exist in 720p or lower, and a converter can't add detail that was never there. If a file looks soft, check what quality the original was posted in.

More on that in why a download looks blurry.

Is YouTube to MP4 conversion free?

Yes, for your first 3 downloads. Make a free account with an email and password and you get 3 downloads to try it. After that, A Little More is $2.50 for 20 downloads, paid once. Pro is $5.99 a month for unlimited downloads, or $14 a quarter, or $45 a year. If a download fails, it doesn't use a credit.

We build your file on our server and delete it 15 minutes after it's ready. Your account history keeps the link, the title and the format you picked, and you can clear it whenever you like. There's no app to install: it all runs in the browser on iPhone, Android, Mac and PC.
