How to save an X (Twitter) video to iPhone Photos

Download a video from an X post on iPhone and move it from Files into your camera roll.

Updated

On iPhone, files you download in Safari go to the Files app first. Here's how to save a video from an X post and get it into your Photos library, all without installing anything.

Step 1: copy the link

In the X app, tap the share icon under the post (the arrow pointing up), then Copy link.

Step 2: download it in Safari

  1. Open Safari and go to the X video downloader.
  2. Tap the box and paste the link.
  3. Tap Download. When Safari asks, tap Download again.

Use Safari rather than the browser built into the X app. In-app browsers often can't save files.

Step 3: move it to Photos

  1. Tap the blue arrow in Safari's address bar, then tap the file. Or open the Files app and go to Downloads.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Choose Save Video.

The video now shows up in Photos under Recents.

If Save Video is missing

iPhone only shows Save Video for formats Photos can play. MP4 and MOV both work. If you chose MKV or WebM, download again as MP4. More in saving a downloaded video to iPhone Photos.

GIFs

A GIF from X saves as a short MP4. In Photos it plays as a normal video. To send it as a GIF in Messages, you'll need a separate app that converts it.

Things that won't download

Videos from protected accounts and live broadcasts. If a public post fails, the attempt doesn't use a credit. See how to download videos from X for more help with links.

Quick answers

Can I do this in Chrome on iPhone?

Yes. Chrome on iPhone also saves to Files, and the steps for moving the video into Photos are the same. Safari is a little smoother because of the download arrow in the address bar.

Where is the Downloads folder?

In the Files app, tap Browse. Downloads is under iCloud Drive or On My iPhone, depending on your Safari settings. Search for the post's title if you can't spot it.

Does this cost anything?

Your free account includes 3 downloads. After that it's $2.50 for 20, or Pro at $5.99 a month for unlimited.

Is the video kept on your server?

Only for 15 minutes after it's ready. Then it's deleted.
