How to download videos from X (Twitter)
Save the video from an X post as MP4 on iPhone, Android or a computer, including GIFs.
X (still twitter.com to many of us) doesn't offer a download button for videos in posts. You can still save them from the post's link, on any phone or computer.
Copy the post link
- In the app: tap the share icon under the post, then Copy link.
- On a computer: click the post to open it, then copy the address bar. It looks like x.com/name/status/ followed by a number.
Links that start with twitter.com work too.
Download the video
- Open the X video downloader.
- Paste the link.
- Keep Video and MP4.
- Press Download.
We take the highest quality X has for that video, up to 1080p.
GIFs
X stores GIFs as short silent videos. Paste the link to a post with a GIF and you'll get an MP4. It loops in most players and works in messaging apps.
Quoted posts and replies
If the video is inside a quoted post, open the original post first and copy that link. Same for replies: click the reply itself so the link points at it.
Audio and transcripts
Switch to Audio to save a clip's sound as MP3, or to Transcript for the words. Transcripts are handy for news clips and speeches you want to quote accurately.
What can't be downloaded
- Posts from protected accounts.
- Spaces (live audio rooms) and live broadcasts.
- Deleted posts.
Saving to your phone
On Android it goes straight to your gallery. iPhone takes one extra step through Files, covered in saving an X video to iPhone Photos.
Quick answers
Do I need an X account?
No. You need a free account with us to download, but not an X account, as long as the post is public.
Why is my video smaller than I expected?
X often limits uploads to 1080p or lower, and older posts may be 720p or less. We save the best copy X has.
Can I download a video from a DM?
No. Direct messages are private, so their videos can't be fetched.
Is there a length limit?
Long videos work, they just take longer to prepare. Keep the tab open until the download starts.
