How to download videos from Instagram posts

Save a video from an Instagram feed post, including posts with several slides, from public accounts.

Updated

Not every Instagram video is a Reel. Feed posts can hold a single video, or a carousel of several slides mixing photos and videos. Here's how to save the video from a public post.

Copy the post link

  1. Tap the three dots at the top right of the post, or the paper plane under it.
  2. Tap Copy link. On a computer, copy the address bar. It contains /p/.

Download the video

  1. Open the Instagram downloader and paste the link.
  2. Keep Video and MP4, or choose another format.
  3. Press Download.

Posts with several slides

A carousel can hold several videos and photos under one link. If the post has more than one video and the file you get isn't the one you wanted, send us the link through the contact page so we can look into it. Photos aren't saved, since this tool is for video, audio and transcripts.

Quality

You'll get the best version Instagram serves for that post, often up to 1080p. Instagram compresses uploads heavily, so older posts and videos uploaded from a slow connection can look soft. That softness is in Instagram's copy, so a downloader can't fix it. More in why downloaded videos look blurry.

Getting the transcript

For a talking-head video, a recipe or a tutorial, switch to Transcript and choose TXT. If the post has no captions, our speech-to-text writes the transcript. It handles clear speech well but isn't perfect, so check quantities and names.

What won't work

  • Posts from private accounts.
  • Stories from close friends, and any story that's expired.
  • Instagram Live.

Quick answers

Can I download IGTV videos?

Instagram folded IGTV into regular video posts and Reels. Copy the link the same way and it works like any other post.

Do I need to log in to Instagram?

No. We only need the link, and the post has to be public.

Will the caption text come with it?

No, the written caption under a post isn't saved. The Transcript option gives you what's spoken in the video.
