How to copy a video link on any app

Where the Copy link button is on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X, on phone and computer.

Updated

Every download starts with the video's link. Each app hides its Copy link button in a slightly different place. Here's where to find it.

YouTube

  • App: tap Share under the video, then Copy link. For Shorts, the Share arrow is on the right.
  • Computer: copy the address bar, or click Share under the video, then Copy.

TikTok

  • App: tap the Share arrow on the right of the video, then Copy link. If you can't see it, swipe the bottom row left.
  • Computer: open the video and copy the address bar.

Instagram

  • App: tap the paper plane under the Reel or post, then Copy link. It's also in the three-dot menu.
  • Computer: open the post and copy the address bar.

Facebook

  • App: tap Share under the video, then Copy link.
  • Computer: click the post's date or time to open it on its own page, then copy the address bar.

X (Twitter)

  • App: tap the share icon under the post, then Copy link.
  • Computer: click the post to open it, then copy the address bar.

Vimeo, LinkedIn, Pinterest and others

Most sites have a Share button that offers Copy link. On a computer, opening the video on its own page and copying the address bar works almost everywhere.

Pasting the link

  1. Open the downloader, for example the YouTube downloader.
  2. Tap or click the box.
  3. Paste. On a phone, long-press and choose Paste. On a computer, press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V.

Common link mistakes

  • Copying a profile link instead of a video link.
  • Copying text from a message that includes extra words around the link.
  • Using a link to a private post. See video won't download for what can't be fetched.

Quick answers

Why does my copied link have extra bits on the end?

Apps often add tracking codes after a question mark, like ?si= or ?igsh=. You can leave them. The downloader ignores them.

Can I paste a short link like youtu.be or vm.tiktok.com?

Yes. Short share links work the same as full ones.

The app has no Copy link option. What now?

Some posts limit sharing. Try opening the video in a browser and copying the address bar. If the post is private, it can't be downloaded anyway.

Can I paste several links at once?

Paste one link at a time. Each download is its own file.
