How to download a Facebook video
Copy a Facebook video link on phone or computer and save the video in HD where it's available.
Facebook doesn't have a download button for most videos, but any public video can be saved from its link. That includes videos from Pages, public profiles and Watch.
Find the video's link
- In the app: tap Share under the video, then Copy link.
- On a computer: click the video's timestamp (like "3h" or a date) to open it on its own page, then copy the address bar. You can also right-click the video and choose Copy video URL.
Download it
- Open the Facebook downloader.
- Paste the link.
- Choose Video and a format. MP4 is the default.
- Press Download.
HD or SD?
When Facebook has an HD copy, that's what we save, up to 1080p. Some videos, especially older ones or ones shared from phones, only exist in standard definition, and you'll get the best available.
Videos that can't be downloaded
- Videos in private groups.
- Posts shared only with friends or a custom list.
- Live broadcasts while they're live.
A quick test: open the link in a private browser window where you're not logged in. If the video plays there, it should download. If it asks you to log in, it won't. More in video won't download.
Saving the audio or the words
Switch to Audio for an MP3 of a talk or a song, or to Transcript for a text version of what's said.
On your phone
Android saves to Downloads, visible in your gallery. iPhone saves to Files, and you can move it to Photos with Share, then Save Video. See saving to iPhone Photos.

Quick answers
Can I download a video from Facebook Watch?
Yes. Open the video in Watch, tap Share, then Copy link, and paste it in the usual way.
What about a video someone shared to their timeline?
Click through to the original post if you can. A shared post sometimes links to the sharer's page rather than the video, and the original link is more reliable.
Can I download Facebook Stories?
Only if they're public and still live. Most Stories are friends-only, so they won't work.
Does it work on a work computer?
It runs in any browser, so there's nothing to install. Some company networks block video sites, which can stop the link from loading for you.
